Corporate networks built on LAN topology need to accommodate new applications such as IP telephony and video conferencing, as well as more conventional ones like Internet/intranet connections. With the high population of PCs in offices, ever-increasing traffic has become a fact of life. At the same time, information flowing in corporate networks is critical to corporate profit. Therefore, service providers are now expected to expand into intranets of corporate and public sectors.

The GS3000 series is a new line of high performance mid-range Gigabit LAN switches. It inherits many of its key features and reliability from the carrier-class GS4000 series of Gigabit switches. Equipped with hardware-based IPv6 support and enhanced QoS features, the GS3000 provides the highest performance and reliability required for mission critical applications and networks.

Two models of the GS3000 are currently available:

• The GS3000-20E provides two network interface (NIF) slots and 24 Gbps switching capacity.
• The GS3000-40E doubles the switching capacity to 48 Gbps and provides four NIF slots.

Key Features and Benefits

• With IPv6 support in hardware, the GS3000 provides leading edge technology and processing speed for next-generation networks.

• QoS traffic classification and queuing mechanisms in hardware, the GS3000 provides network managers the tools necessary to seamlessly implement VoIP and other mission-critical applications.

• Advanced QoS technologies provides a guaranteed-type network to protect and prioritize mission-critical traffic, such as backbone task data, VoIP telephone data, teleconferencing data, streaming distribution, etc.

• Support of various kinds of network redundancy, and realization of high-availability and high-scalability networks.

• Provision for link aggregation and various types of network interface cards to build a high-scalability network capable of flexibly handling increasing traffic.

• Secure networking using security features, such as advanced filtering and SSH.

• Support of SNMP, sFlow, NetFlow, and various kinds of statistics information to achieve an operation for simple network management.
