Provides an easy way to purchase a home theater component system. The YHT-23 includes Yamaha's five-piece NS-AP327 speaker ensemble, a YST-SW45 subwoofer, plus Yamaha's HTR-5240 home theater receiver which delivers Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS decoding, and Yamaha's Digital Sound Field Processing.

VERSATILE, POWERFUL RECEIVER
The HTR-5240 is a 5-channel receiver providing Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 channel decoding, and Yamaha's Tri-Field Cinema DSP and Digital Sound Field Processing. Dolby Digital and DTS deliver discrete surround enjoyment on DVDs and laserdiscs - DTS offers discrete 5.1 channel surround on music CDs, too. Yamaha's proprietary surround processing technologies add depth and excitement to all kinds of audio and video programs.

DISCRETE 6-CHANNEL LINE INPUT
High quality performance today and ready for tomorrow. The HTR-5240 can easily accept the decoded output from any 5.1 channel surround system, whether it's MPEG-2, the new DVD Audio, or a system not yet developed.

DISCRETE POWER TRANSISTORS
Discrete power transistors rather than IC chips are used in the amplifier section to provide the cleanest sound possible. The amp delivers 70 watts to each of its five channels.

ACCLAIMED YAMAHA IC CHIPS
Yamaha's YSS-918 chip provides Dolby Digital and DTS with full channel separation and no front-to-back bleedthrough. In addition the chip creates Yamaha's Music and Cinema DSP and Tri-Field Processing modes.

23 SURROUND MODES INCLUDING MUSIC, CINEMA, AND TRI-FIELD DSP PROGRAMS
Yamaha's exclusive Digital Sound Field Processing for music recreates the acoustic personalities of actual concert halls and other venues. Cinema DSP multiplies the effects of Dolby Pro Logic and Yamaha DSP to provide the best possible Pro Logic movie theater recreation in your home. Tri-Field Processing DSP does the same for Dolby Digital and DTS. The HTR-5240's surround modes include 20 movie and entertainment modes and three modes specifically designed for music.

CONVENIENT SET MENU
The HTR-5240 also provides ways to customize many of these sound field settings for your particular room. Specific aspects of a sound field, such as center delay time, speaker size, and others can be adjusted, displayed on the front panel and set so they're always there in a given mode.

NEW THIN PROFILE UNIVERSAL REMOTE CONTROL
The new thin profile remote control keypad is ergonomically designed for easy access to the most often used features, functions and operations. It can operate Yamaha A/V components and has pre-set codes for popular brands of TVs, VCRs, DVD players and cable/DBS boxes.

FOUR AUDIO/VIDEO AND THREE AUDIO INPUTS
The HTR-5240 is a versatile receiver incorporating 4 sets of audio/video (with 2 S- videos) inputs and 3 pairs of audio-only inputs (including 2 optical, 1 coax digital inputs).

LOW IMPEDANCE DRIVE CAPABILITY AND IMPEDANCE SWITCHING
Yamaha's famed low impedance drive circuitry is included in this receiver so that it can handle virtually all loads and a wide variety of speakers. For further speaker matching, the receiver's back-panel switches can be set for either high or low-impedance main speakers and either high or low-impedance center and surround speakers.

LINEAR DAMPING FACTOR CIRCUIT
The advantage of full range, 20 to 20,000 Hz, damping is that it improves the definition and resolution of the sound output throughout the audible frequency range.

SUBWOOFER OUTPUT
Separate subwoofer output with a 200 Hz low pass filter is especially convenient with sub/satellite speaker systems.

A/B SPEAKER SELECTOR
Allows selection of either a first set of speakers or a second -- or both.

40-STATION DIRECT ACCESS PRESET TUNING
Up to 40 preset AM and FM stations can be grouped in five groups eight stations. These groupings make it easy for family members to easily access their favorite stations or to have musical genres, such as all the jazz stations, grouped together.

BINDING POST SPEAKER TERMINALS
Yamaha's heavy-duty binding post speaker terminals accept banana plugs, spade connectors, and a variety of speaker wire, including heavy gauge cable.

COMPLETE HOME THEATER SPEAKER COMPLEMENT
The six-speaker complement includes the 5-speaker NS-AP327 for the front, center, and surround speakers and Yamaha's YST-SW45 subwoofer which delivers low bass, which is so important for effective home theater. Each magnetically shielded speaker in the NS-AP327 ensemble is a two-way design utilizing a 3-1/2" woofer and 3/4" tweeter. Since the speakers are identical, they provide a seamless surround effect.

DRAMATIC BASS
The low bass YHT-23 system is provided by the Yamaha YST-SW45 Active Servo Technology subwoofer. It features an 8" driver and 70 watt amplifier to deliver the sonic punch needed for home theater. It is magnetically shielded, so it can be placed near a TV without degrading the picture. A volume control and 50 to 150 Hz continuously variable high-cut filter allow for seamless transitions from subwoofer to full-range speakers.

SIGNAL SENSING
The subwoofer will automatically activate when its circuitry senses an audio signal and will turn off when the signal has ceased for several minutes.

MAGNETIC SHIELDING FOR OPTIMUM SYSTEM PERFORMANCE
All speakers included in the YHT-23 feature magnetic shielding, so they can be placed near a TV or monitor and cause no picture degradation.

COMPLETE HOME THEATER SPEAKER COMPLEMENT
The six-speaker complement includes the 5-speaker NS-P220 for the front, center, and surround speakers and a Yamaha subwoofer which delivers low bass, which is so important for effective home theater. Each magnetically shielded speaker in the NS-P220's L/C/R/Surround ensemble is a two-way design utilizing a 3" woofer and 1/2" tweeter. Since the speakers are identical, they provide a seamless surround effect.

DRAMATIC BASS
The low bass YHT-18 system is provided by the Yamaha's Advanced Active Servo Technology subwoofer. It features a 6 1/2" driver and 50 watt amplifier to deliver the sonic punch needed for home theater. It is magnetically shielded, so it can be placed near a TV without degrading the picture. A volume control and two-position high-cut filter allow for seamless transitions from subwoofer to full-range speakers.
