Features:

File-based network operation
Offering all the advantages of the Sony XDCAM production family, the PDJ-C1080 transforms the efficiency of broadcast and production workflows. Integrating with the existing production and on-air operations, the PDJ-C1080 presents a direct replacement for videotape-based archive solutions while delivering significant operational benefits, greater reliability and reduced operational costs.

Automatic ingest and registration of material
Speed of ingest to networked production systems is significantly increased with the PDJ-C1080. The robotic mechanism automates the ingest process, allowing program material to be restored simultaneously from multiple, separate Professional Discs without any human intervention - thus removing the bottle-necks normally associated with manual ingest.

The reliable, rugged choice
Teaming the inherent reliability of the XDCAM production family with field-proven Sony robotic loader technology, the PDJ-C1080 offers significantly improved operational reliability compared with video-tape archive systems. Specified for a minimum of 10,000 over-write cycles and with a media life in excess of 50 years, the Professional Disc media used in the PDJ-C1080 has been designed to stand up to the rigors of repeated re-use without degradation.

Reduced operational costs
Requiring 40% less space than comparable video-tape robotic systems, the compact footprint of the PDJ-C1080 reduces library space requirements. The durable, re-usable Professional Disc media is also lighter and more compact than tape, reducing shelf space requirements and storage costs. Since there's no physical contact between the optical laser assembly and the surface of the Professional Disc media, mechanical wear is eliminated, resulting in a dramatic increase in overall system reliability compared with tape.

PDJ-CS10 Cart Interface Software
Configured with PDJ-CS10 Cart Interface Software, the PDJ-C1080 interfaces with MXF-compliant editing and playout systems from other leading vendors. Professional Discs resident in the PDJ-C1080 appear to external systems via standard FTP or CIFS protocols as a shared network drive. The content of each Professional Disc appears as a subfolder of the shared drive. The PDJ-CS10 software application provides powerful disc capacity management, automatically storing clips to an available Professional Disc of the appropriate video format and with available free disc space.
